This post will provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to download and install the Sketchup 2015 Exporter for 3ds Max. We'll also provide you with links to download both products for free! The 3D modeling industry has always been moving forward, adapting to the desires of its customers. As the technology has grown more efficient, so have its creators. Sketchup is one of those leading the charge - it's a groundbreaking software that allows you to create three dimensional models in an intuitive way, without expensive training or prerequisite skills. The downside? You can't take your model into other design programs without an exporter... until now. The guys over at Simlab have created a plugin that will allow you to export your Sketchup models into 3ds Max. Instead of having to model it all over again, you can just bring in your Sketchup models and improve upon them! This plugin will save you time, effort, and money when it comes to creating your next project. The plugin is called the Sketchup 2015 Exporter for 3ds Max and it works with any version of 3ds Max from 2012 on up. The exporter has both commercial and non-commercial versions: Commercial: The commercial version works with any 3dsmax license (i.e. standard, ultimate, etc.) and costs $199. Non-Commercial: The non-commercial version has limited features but will work with any Autodesk edition of 3dsmax (i.e. student, academic, etc.). It costs $99. Features of this plugin include: Assets can be individually assigned to an asset library for easy selection and management. Assets can be named using the Sketchup layer name or ID number for easy identification within 3ds Max .obj files. Assets are exported with all textures applied so there is no need to manually texture them in Max before hand. Simply apply the texture you want during the 3ds Max process. Assets can be easily dropped into various 3d modeling applications including Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Blender and more. Assets can be exported with the original Sketchup text format so they can be opened in Sketchup without any problems. Assets can be exported as a .max2014 file with all textures applied so you will have full control over the process of importing the model into your intended application. The textures will not be applied during import so you will have full control over how to texture them after import! Assets can NOT materials applied to them. Assets can be exported in .obj format only. No Sketchup .stl formats will be exported. Assets can be assigned to a real world object, with the ability to modify the hierarchy of the scene. Assets have their resolution adjusted to fit properly in Max with proper scaling of entire objects for proper viewing. Assets are shown with proper UV direction so you know which one is which when slicing objects. Developed by Simlab, this plugin was created by an industry veteran who understands the needs of the 3D modeling community. cfa1e77820
